After 3 years of hard work which started after the devastating fire that destroyed the previous building in 2021, work officially began on building the new Bromham Community Hub on Tuesday September 24th.

More than a hundred villagers joined the trustees, the Parish Council, our MP Dr. Brian Mathew and Councillor Laura Mayes to watch six children representing the school council of St. Nicholas CofE primary school put the first spades in the ground.

Sue Wilkinson, Chair of the Trustees told the children: “This new building is not just for the current villagers, but more importantly it’s for you, the future generation.”

The younger generation were joined by two of Bromham’s older villagers, Mrs Margaret Bray, who is 98 and Mr Dennis Powney, 89. Dennis was presented with a time capsule that he has agreed to fill with the help of villagers, and which will be buried under the new building.

Coincidentally it was 50 years ago to the week that the previous Social Centre was officially opened, and we were delighted to be joined by two of the original trustees, Bromham’s oldest villager, Mr Ivor Gardner, who is 104 and Mr Peter Paget. We are extremely grateful to Ivor's family for arranging for him to come.

The project has been made possible by a complex funding package which includes a £300,000 grant from the Government Community Ownership Fund, a £150,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. We have also received a grant from the Parish Council, a large anonymous donation, a significant donation of plumbing supplies, and funds from a wide range of fundraising initiatives and events in the village. We are immensely grateful to them all for their support.

There is still plenty of fundraising to be done over the next few months to be able to furnish the building, to fit out the kitchens, to provide crockery, cutlery and glasses and to landscape the outside areas.
